On Saturday, October 15, 2022, the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center Office of Community Outreach & Education (COE) Associate Director, Dr. Lourdes Baezconde-Garbanati and team were present at the 2022 Taste of Soul (TOS) event. The USC NCCC Office of COE, along with representation from CaRE2 Health Equity Center, disseminated cancer and clinical trials educational materials and resource program information. Taste of Soul (TOS) is free festival to the public which takes place on the beloved Crenshaw Blvd., between Barack Obama Blvd. and Stocker St. This event attracts over 350,000+ people, mostly African American and other minorities. TOS is the largest, one-day, FREE Festival in all of Los Angeles. This annual event, hosted every third Saturday in October, features all things “soulful,” from local and international cuisine, to favorite quick-eats that reflect a Black cultural experience, fused with diverse cultures and traditions. Each year, the festival boasts five amazing stage performances, featuring world renown artists, award-winning singers, and your favorite bands. From Queen Latifah to Stevie Wonder, Chante Moore, Genuine, Doug E. Fresh, Brandy, Kenny Lattimore, and many fan favorite artists. Taste of Soul is a free family-friendly event, hosted in partnership with the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, Radio Free 102.3 KJLH, 94.7 The Wave, and Hyundai. TOS takes place in the 8th and 10th council districts, represented by Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson, Jr., with the support of their partners and sponsor. TOS offers a vast number of resources, including social services, healthcare information, and job recruitment.
