Wednesday, September 16, was a historical day when the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) released its inaugural Cancer Disparities Progress Report through a Congressional Briefing, where the Steering Committee Chair, CaRE2 co-Director Dr. John Carpten, delivered the Keynote address. This report was almost two years in the making and has the goal of raising awareness about the cancer burden suffered by racial and ethnic minorities and other underserved populations. The report highlights areas of progress in reducing cancer health disparities and includes a Call to Action with specific recommendations for reducing disparities and achieving health equity. Co-Director Dr. Mariana Stern was also a member of the Steering Committee, and Dr. Ghecemy Lopez, two times cancer survivor, and patient advocate and navigator at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, provided her testimony.
